The metro was kept running all night on New Year's Eve 2000, with everyone celebrating the millennium. Since then, it's closed at the normal time.

Didn't they offer special service a few years ago? I seem to recall the metro closing around 1:30 or 2am on one New Year's Eve.

In fact, they don't even offer Saturday night extended service, which adds 30 minutes to the closing time of the metro and the final departure of most buses.

It's really unfortunate.

Time for my annual complaint: It is almost criminal that the STM offers no special service on New Year's Eve. If there's a night when you want to make sure that people have as many transportation options as possible, that's it. And if you want to stay out 'til last call? You can chase cabs for the night (which are sure to be packed) or take a night bus.
