Hands down one of the worst sports writers I've come across. Yeah, he can write but there's more to it than that. He can EASILY be replaced. He was so full of it on so many articles he became a joke to sports junkies. Instead of having Todd come back and do a more "serious" column, why not put in some fresh blood? All these sports guys got their breaks in the 80s and it's time for some fricken new ideas.

He left with a whimper because he was simply not a good sports writer. He left no impact and he certainly never ever made me stop and think. He never seemed to grow as a writer either.

His last column summarized the nicely the lack of class this guy had. Always has to leave with a mark. But what good is that mark if it's lame? He though he had a nice right hook when it fact it was a weak jab.

As for the politics, you put it nicely but how about those who don't agree? His inserting of politics was not only infantile but pointless.

Last, I'm a soccer fan. I could not believe how some of his soccer pieces got past the editor. Heck, half of his damn articles. A bunch of us would meet once a week (from '92 to '00) and talk soccer. I can't tell you how many times his articles left us perplexed. It was like a kid was writing them. He clearly was in over his head. Towards the end we simply stopped reading him. To think that this guy got to go to a World Cup and squandered it with his drivel. He wrote like a guy who watched the game every four years.

I'll never forget one article about the Italian community during the World Cup. Just plain awful if not condescending and idiotic. Borderline prejudiced.

Yes, count me in as one of those guys who is happy he's gone.

Bye-bye, Todd.

PS: Melnick is another one headed the Todd way if he doesn't smarten up soon. At least Melnick is (was) good at what he does. Now he's sinking. What is it with Montreal and the personal jabs at each other? Ridiculous. Unprofessional. Melnick should tame it a little with his praising of McGuire. We get it Mitch. He's an error-less god. Move on.

Never afraid to tell it like it is about anything or anyone Todd can easily make almost any sports fan crazy, or at least bring out a little dark side. But he was like that as a city columnist as well and I will never forget his story that ended with a guy I knew as a teenager dying of AIDS many years later.

It s the end of an era of sorts and Todd will never be adequately replaced.
