I attended that Charter and I can see my self in one of those photos. Very nice story. I came from Ottawa just for the day on the first train into town and the last train out of town. I am glad you guys don't have Special Constables in Montreal that I could see at least. In Ottawa the Special Constables like to harass us Transit Fans. Right now I am trying to launch a complaint against one who had no right to tell us to "Get Lost".

The last STM "New Look" bus was retired from active service in 2002. The 59-series Classic is the oldest still on the road.

If you see one driving down the street in Montreal, it's almost certainly one of the following three buses:

#14-008 or #33-008, part of a mobile museum owned by the FHTCQ

or the Réchaud-Bus, a volunteer initiative from the STM which provides hot meals to kids.

Have they retired all the "New Look" buses (the 1960s-70s models pre-dating the Classic)? STM's site says they have a few late generation models still on the roads. You must recall that there used to be a skeptically high number of the rickety old things assigned to 210 John Abbott a few years back. Beautiful vehicle though.

Nice story. I'm a fan of transit but not necessarily a transit fan, so it's always interesting to observe people who take my interest to extreme lengths.

When we were in Hong Kong in March my girlfriend and I encountered a group of transit fans who had commissioned a new double-decker bus for a day. They started their tour with a big photoshoot and were very happy to answer our questions. We didn't get invited along for the ride, unfortunately.
