Want to work for the Journal?

Catch pedophiles. Tailgate the transport minister. Discover the evils of being hired as an anglophone. Follow ceremonial appointments and complain about how they’re so ceremonial.

Those are among the selling points, apparently, of being hired as a reporter for the Journal de Montréal. And if such … let’s call it “journalism” … appeals to you (and you write well in French), you’re in luck: Montreal’s biggest newspaper is hiring.

Check your dignity at the door and send an application to Gazette turncoat traitor managing editor George Kalogerakis.

UPDATE: I see I’m not the only one to notice this.

Yeah, anglophones are the crass ennemy (pun intended): they are not french!

Can we lay down the paranoia? It’s not because the english hate the french that the opposite is true. If it was, the english would have been thrown out centuries ago when we had the numbers.

The J de M is one of the few papers that does tabloid properly, with the resources needed. And it’s not like it’s pretending to be Le Devoir. Plus J de M pays it’s reporters really well and they have a four day work week. I think you’re just jealous Steve. Some people might think the Gazette is a worse place to work.

I’m kind of getting sick of the flogging J de M takes from media types. It’s like you’re trying to impress and outdo each other by saying how crappy it is.

I don’t think the Journal is crappy. It’s certainly the best tabloid out there, and I’d probably jump in a second if I could for the extra pay. And I’ve certainly been just as critical of other media and newspapers (including my own) when they’ve pulled cheap stunts.

But the idea of making news and over-scandalizing small or even non-existent issues just rubs me the wrong way.

(I used to hang with a Gazette photographer [no, I won’t say who]… Then I didn’t see him for a few years, then I meet him. I asked him ”I hear you guys really miss Conrad Black since you’ve got Izzie Asper”… He said “No kidding!!!”)
