Actually, it&#039;s the flag of the Patriotes of 1837-38 during the rebellion (simultaneous to the rebellion in York (aka Toronto by William Lyon Mackenzie.)
In the 1960s this flag became quite popular, especially a bit later during the War Measures Act when it was a pacific symbol of resistance.
More common amongst fringes today.</description>
