About the mattresses being "least likely to picked up by scavengers" - that is probably true but not entirely. My son's best friend is Congolese and his father supplements his income by filling shipping containers to send to Africa filled with laptops, bicycles, cars, lawn-mowers, used clothing and...scavenged mattresses. The mattresses are stripped down, re-upholstered, and sold for 100 dollars a pop!
