The AMT on Tuesday finally released its fare table for 2010 to the public, becoming the first major transit agency to do so. Neither the RTL, STL or STM have released a table, though they are all expected to increase slightly (the STM board was expected to vote on an increase at their meeting Tuesday night, but apparently that's going to happen at another meeting, possibly next week).
The AMT fares are going up by 1.5 to 2%, which is much less than the 3-4% they went up at the beginning of 2009. So a $100 pass would go up by $2 on Jan. 1, 2010, when it went up by $3.50 on Jan. 1, 2009.

*Hudson and Rigaud are technically in Zone 6, but the AMT is extending its "reduction tarifiaire" so people who use those stations need only a Zone 5 pass.
The released table doesn't list prices for single fares, I guess because there won't be any of those anymore. Which is a shame.
After last year's dismal winter performance, the AMT has a lot of nerve raising fares. All I can say is if I'm paying extra, and trains are still running late/outright disappearing every time some tiny amount of snow falls, I'm going to be seriously pissed.
That goes double for the STM. My bus at Cote Vertu just never showed this morning, no announcement, no employee coming to tell us why we'd all be standing in the snow for 20 minutes longer than normal... nothing. I ended up taking a different bus, and being over an hour late for work. Thanks STM, sure, take more of my money, you clearly deserve it.
1. The AMT is only raising fares half as much as it did last year.
2. The AMT has already compensated users for "last year's dismal winter performance" (and I would argue in a really stupid way).
3. The AMT has added service in the past year. Starting in January, it added 26 new departures to four of its five lines. It also recently put into service new double-decker train cars, which started on the St. Hilaire line but will be expanded to the others.
I'm not saying the AMT is perfect, or that the fare increase is the right thing to do, but it's not like they're sitting on their asses thinking up new ways to screw over their users.
Uhh, you did realize we had a snow storm this morning, right? Buses are not immune to problems that snow storms cause.

I hardly ever take commuter trains, but next week I'm invited to a holiday dinner on a Friday in DDO so here I am looking at the AMT site for the first time in awhile.
Looking at the schedule, there's a list of stops, but is there a link from those names to a fiche for each station? No! Basic rule of the web: anywhere you can increase usefulness by linking, do so. Broken.
I know there used to be at least something like a page for each train stop but if they're still on the site they're well hidden. How am I supposed to sort out which of two possible stops to use (Sunnybrooke vs. Roxboro-Pierrefonds) and which bus is likely to get me closer to my destination? (Google Maps declines to suggest the train, proposing a long haul of two buses from Sauvé metro, taking nearly an hour and a half.)
I'm really confused about the single trip fares for 2010! I'd wish they would just tell us what is going on; whether they've decided to get rid of them, whether they're staying at the same price, or whether they just haven't decided how much to increase the price by... why don't they just tell us so we're not left guessing!
I went by an Opus machine today, and it looks like the single fares are staying, but you need to either have an Opus card to put them on, or buy a disposable Solo card with six tickets on it.
