Andrea Collins joins CTV Montreal as fill-in weather presenter

Andrea Collins

You’re going to see yet another blonde on CTV Montreal. Andrea Collins, who hosts the late morning show on Virgin Radio and the weekly Dinner Rush show on CJAD, has been added as a fill-in weather presenter. Her first shift was on the late show on Tuesday, and you can see her do the online weather update.

The station has been pretty light on the position for some time now. It needs to be done seven days a week, and besides Lori Graham on weekdays and Lise McAuley on weekends, there was just Randy Renaud (and he has other responsibilities). The situation was pressed even more because Graham is taking an extended summer vacation and only returning in August.

Funny how pretty people inevitably find their way onto television…

Shame on CJAD and now CTV Montreal for all the extended vacations they give their staff. When I worked, the most I ever got in a year was 5 weeks of vacation.

There is no such thing as a “weather specialist”. That is code for “too cheap to hire a meteorologist”. Considering the impact of the weather on this city, I’d like to see more brains and less boobs on our “news”. And we thought only US stations hired porn-look-likes for their sports and news and weather… bienvenue au Canada! Shameful.

Is that really necessary these days? I mean, do we need the person telling us the weather on TV to be creating their own forecasts? Or would you rather leave that to the experts at Environment Canada or the Weather Network, including many nerdy brains who couldn’t string two sentences together on air.

And we thought only US stations hired porn-look-likes

I’m not sure what “porn-look-likes” is supposed to mean. Pretty people? Blondes? People in heels? You seem to be implying that Andrea Collins was hired strictly because of her looks, and not because she’s an experienced broadcaster who knows how to present information well in a short period of time.

Yes, we DO need intelligent and trained people to deliver our weather, just like we need trained and intelligent people to fly our planes and to cut into us during surgery. A meterologist is not a presenter and we don’t need yet another plastic-pretty nobody to interpret what are often important details about the weather. Experience on TV is not a criteria to interpreting the weather, just like playing video games doesn’t make you a pilot. Weather “specialists” don’t exist. Put a professional on the air or leave that segment out.

Porn-look-alikes = exactly what that sounds like. People who look like they’d be better suited to porn flicks than the news.

I don’t think the safety issue is as serious with weather presentation as with piloting a plane.

A meterologist is not a presenter and we don’t need yet another plastic-pretty nobody to interpret what are often important details about the weather.

Why do you qualify Andrea Collins as a “plastic-pretty nobody”? Has she failed to present some important information about the weather to you? Has she shown herself to be incompetent in some way?

Experience on TV is not a criteria to interpreting the weather, just like playing video games doesn’t make you a pilot.

An odd analogy, since pilots get much of their training from simulators, which aren’t much different from video games.

Porn-look-alikes = exactly what that sounds like. People who look like they’d be better suited to porn flicks than the news.

So people who look a certain way should be relegated to pornographic films and not be shown on TV? How enlightening.

Why is it always the case when someone is hired at one of these stations,be it Radio or TV, it’s always a white or a black person why not someone from another visible minority.
How dare they try to insult our intelligence into thinking by hiring a black person that that person is representative of all other minority groups, because they certainly are not.
We are also aware of the rampant nepotism and friends helping friends, many without any kind experience, being practiced by these media outlets.

Of the five anchors of local 6pm TV newscasts, two are of Asian descent. So I’m not really sure where this is coming from.

Just what ethnic groups do you think there should be more of on radio or TV?

I personally and my family miss Lori Graham very much, but you know what if the station gave her the time off for whatever reason, and good for her. Andrea Collins is super great and fits right in there, also Lise and Randy are great, Reading these notes from other people, people are very critical of other people because they are unhappy in their self and cannot see beyond that, Anyway I have been watching CTV forever, and my parents and now I am 66, still work and I will always be a fan of Lori, She is the greatest and so are all the other team, Bravo. One person I miss is Paul Karwatsky, Is he on vacation ? Take care.
